(News Focus) Korean streaming services eye global market to improve profits
Korean media and entertainment giant CJ ENM's Tving, the nation's largest streaming platform in terms of its subscriber base, posted 119 billion won (US$92.9 million) in operating losses last year, up from 76.2 billion won in 2021. Tving said it will invest 400 billion won in content development this year, while Wavve announced plans to spend 1 trillion won on content production by 2025, beginning with 300 billion won this year. "Given global OTT players, such as Netflix, are realizing the economies of scale in the global market, local players have to explore ways to tap into the global market to recoup rising investments in original content," said Lee Sang-won, a professor at Kyunghee University.

The group that consists of six members -- An Yu-jin, Jang Won-young, Gaeul, Liz, Rei and Leeseo —- debuted in December 2021 with the single "Eleven." It has achieved stardom as the song and its two follow-up singles, "Love Dive" and "After Like," became megahits.
